The Erie Community Center (ECC) is a cornerstone of the Town’s identity, welcoming residents of all ages to connect, play, and grow. Since opening its doors in 2008, it has served as both a hub for recreation and a gathering place that reflects Erie’s spirit of health and togetherness. With more than 225,000 annual visitors and nearly 90,000 program participants, the Center embodies the Town’s investment in community vitality.
As Erie continues to expand, so too does the demand on this cherished resource. A Pre-Design Study was completed in late 2025 and recognizes both the value of what has been built and the opportunity to plan for what lies ahead. Enhancements to programs, facilities, and support spaces will ensure the Community Center remains a vital and vibrant resource - one that grows alongside the Town and continues to reflect Erie’s collective pride and aspirations. Expansion and renovation are essential to maintain its role as Erie’s hub for health, recreation, and connection.
Daily Use: 800 average visitors; peaks of 1,100.
Annual Visits (2025 - Drop-in plus Programs): 326.000
Staffing: 23 full-time staff today, Projected 27 by 2028.
Increased Participation: Annual visits climbed from 158k (2008) to 225k (2025). Program participation more than doubled from 44k (2008) to 98k (2025).
Site Considerations: Built on ground studied for coal mining stability; parking and circulation remain key to long-term function.
The Erie Community Center (ECC) consistently experiences demand that exceeds available space, as demonstrated by nearly 1,500 individuals placed on program waitlists in 2025. By pursuing this expansion, the ECC will be better positioned to increase preschool, youth, and adult programming; expand drop-in fitness areas and group fitness offerings; and more effectively accommodate the high demand for gymnasium space. Additionally, these renovations will allow for expanded public use of the Mini Miners indoor playground while maintaining KidStation operations. These improvements will enhance the overall visitor experience and allow the Town to better meet the recreation needs of Erie residents.
